2nd Soul Gem (Video/Action for Pewter)

(The PokeGear clicks on to show Sayaka with a confused look on her face, yet a small smile as well. Since the prom came and went, she trekked with her friends from Pallet through Viridian and were on their way to Pewter.)

So, just one question for anyone who's got a penguin for a Pokemon -they don't have to be a starter at all!- I know penguins get pretty big back home, but they don't get this big...do they? Ehehehe~

(The Gear swivels over to Sayaka's right to show that Squire had evolved to Prinplup, and he was currently sleeping against a tree trunk.)

Should I expect him to sleep like this all the time?

(Probably. He takes after his trainer, naturally.)

[As soon as Sayaka's finishes asking the network about her penguin, there's a small electric mouse zooming up to peek at the sleeping Prinplup, giving the poor thing a sharp wake-up call.

Except this one isn't a Pichu! It's Mami's newly hatched Emolga, flying about. And she isn't playing a trick on Squire. She is just sitting too close whenever her Jolteon teammate runs passed, barking a playful challenge. Baby Cappi the Emolga gives an instant happy cry and zooms off after her electric mentor... Leaving a trail of static in her wake, right in Squire's face.

Mami misses all of this, right up to the last second, since she's sitting just off screen from Sayaka's gear, and busy giving her own answer to the girl.]

Maybe it's just a growth spurt making him sleepy. But if he doesn't grow more active now, you might just have to teach him-

[And that's where the sparks went flying.]

(Poor Squire's oblivious to this, waking up due to the shock and looking around to find the culprit. Sayaka's turned off the 'Gear by now and glanced over at Mami curiously.)

...A growth spurt? We've taken on meager roadside trainers for the past couple of weeks since the prom! How much more 'active' can I make him? Maybe teach him some of my heroic traits?

[ Penguin. Another foreign word that holds no meaning to Morgiana. She looks at the Prinplup curiously and recognizes the beak. ]

I have one of these penguins too. He breathes fire.

[ Turning the PokeGear down to the hopping Torchic. It is clearly not a penguin OOPS. ]

[-this smile equals an amused giggle Mami would certainly never give. No, she's just amused by the eggs she's arranging with her Petilil in the grass, clearly!]

Maybe- That would keep him busy, wouldn't it? Especially if he takes to keeping order about the group. That's a full-time job.

[Even with more space and things to do in Pewter, there was no denying the big personalities among their three teams... And she couldn't blame Squire if he was part of the skirmishes. Or if he happened to chase some of Mami's Pokemon, instead.

They're bringing it on themselves, right now, running/flying circles around Squire's tree.]

Heh, yeah it's a tough job but if anymon can do it, mine can~!

(Sayaka's attention was soon drawn to the eggs as Squire got to his feet and gave chase, Bubblebeam attacks flying forward at the same time!)

Do you need any help, Tomoe-san?

(Sayaka's eyes bulge for a brief moment as she stares at the hopping Torchic and thinks OMG A FIRE-BREATHING CHICKEN!!!)

...I-I don't think that's a penguin! Mine shoots water, and I think ice but I've never asked.

He isn't?

[ Sorry Torchic, someday she'll know who you truly are. ] How can something shoot ice?

Eheh, I think he's a fire breathing chicken.

(A beat.)

I'm still trying to understand why he can shoot water...! Are you new to Johto, too?

(When it comes to experience, you're pretty new Sayaka. Being in Johto -or Kanto- overall, not that new.)

... So there is another kind of bird called a "penguin"?

[ This is so much for her to absorb. ] New, yes. I've been here for a few days now.

[ Unfortunately she still doesn't know much. Tutorials are easy mode and only kids play on easy mode. ]

Uh...not really. Hah, my Pokemon's a penguin but yours is a chicken. Neither one of them can fly, but both shoot different kinds of attacks.

(Sayaka's basically repeating -more or less- what Mami's taught her.)

Oh, I see! I'm Sayaka Miki, but you can call me Sayaka. Welcome to Johto! I'm over in Kanto, though.

[ So penguins can shoot water and ice, chickens shoot fire. What does a vulture shoot then, she wonders next? ]

Hello Sayaka. [ That's as friendly of a greeting as she can give. ] I was there when I first arrived, but there was a boat.

(Morgiana also gets a wave from Sayaka in turn. Good start, but she can do better.)

Yeah, I took the same boat to get to Kanto! I was in New Bark Town for a while. You're in Johto right now?

[Clearly so- He certainly grabbed their attention! Cappi did a one-eighty at getting hit and gave a victimized "what was that for?!" to Squire, while Fulvia doubled back to see what the commotion was about.

And Mami watched with only vague concern, until Sayaka inquired about the eggs.]

Why thank you- I just can't figure out how best to arrange them. [She holds up the blue one with red dots, eerily like eyes.] I assume this one needs more sun, since it has a grass-type inside, but besides that there's no telling how much light and warmth they each need.

I would assume a lot, but that wouldn't make since with an ice-type, would it?

(Crossing his flippers while also coming to a stop, Squire motioned back toward the tree -and then pointed to Cappi- to plead his case: "you woke me up! I felt your electrical attack!" Sayaka was more or less oblivious to this, all her attention on Mami.)

Uh...wow, that's what a Grass-type egg looks like? (The 'eyes' are quite disturbing...) Maybe not, but since they're all eggs, shouldn't they get the same amount of sun? When they hatch, then we worry about the ice types.

[ A simple response, but she did just ask a question so Morgiana's default is to answer it concisely. ]

... Did I do it wrong?

[While the squabble continues in the background ("What?! We didn't attack you! It might have been static- But we weren't aiming to hurt you!"), Mami gives a confused frown for Sayaka's sudden bulking. After all, she saw how cute that face is, when it's on the actual walking onion.]

Well yes- But this one's an Oddish, in particular. But... [She turns the egg in her hand, then looks down at the ones still at her knee.] I suppose, even if they do look different and hatch into different things, they are still all eggs now.

But if they're all supposed to be cared for like a standard egg- I'm surprised they don't need incubators.

(Sayaka blinked a few times at hearing Morgiana's question and laughed lightly. This girl was pretty funny! Almost reminded her of another redhead, but...this one didn't steal.)

Hehehe, not at all! I'm with my friends right now, but I'm sure we'll eventually go to Johto soon enough. You're a trainer too, right?

(As Squire listens, then seems to laugh sheepishly -"Really? Sorry, then; as long as you didn't mean to, it's okay. J was wrong to just attack like that."- Sayaka's expression almost changed while listening to Mami's explanation...then resumed that same look upon hearing 'incubators.' Sound familiar?)

...Eheh, incubators? I thought we were just supposed to keep them warm and care for them like real babies -care for them, rock them and stuff!- so why would they need one?

[ No, the stealing is Alibaba and Aladdin's thing??? She hangs out with a street rat, that counts right..... ]

Yes, I'm a trainer.

That's what I was told. My goal is to collect and train all the Pokemon in the world.

... I have no interest in capturing any.

(...Okay, she understood all but the last one. Her eyes widen in disbelief and she tilts her head; did she hear that right?)

...How can you collect and train all the Pokemon without capturing any? 'Cause that's kinda needed if you're planning to fight Gym Leaders.

I'll figure it out. [ She hasn't had a chance to think that far. ]

There has to be a way.
